Rinconada Pool in December
That silky pool was my escape.
Filled with sky and sun
I pulled and pulled
Endlessly gliding from wall to wall
Only occasionally noting
redwood trees
slatted fencing
and the slow moving swimmer
in the lane next to me

Waverider's Lament
Quick September slip slides by
Swallowed by a cloud filled sky
Those of us who ride the waves
Lament each passing darker day
Reluctantly we pack away
Towels and chairs, but still we crave
Salty wetness swirling round
Foam and speed and rythmic sound
Sand and spray and sun galore
Rising waves forever more

To Theo on his 2nd. Birthday
Two years ago
I stared thru glass
mesmorized by your arms and legs
long black hair and
perfectness.
I watched the nurse
scrub your skin
and measure your length.
Except for a diaper
you were naked
eyes still closed
but eager to begin
life.
Amazing

13 October 2009
Two boys crouched
shoulder to shoulder,
leaning across
a flooded gutter
heads down
hands in the warm water
oblivious to rain
streaming off their hoods
or wet shoes
or passing cars
or...
Lost to this world
they huddled
carefully damming the flow
with prickery balls
from nearby trees
and gazed longingly
at tiny leaves
cutting across
their lake
